13 August 2009 The President The Stock Exchange of Thailand Bangkok Dear Sir, Re: Explanation of the decrease in operating results of the second quarter of 2009 over 20 percent from that of the same period of the previous year Berli Jucker Public Company Limited would like to inform that the net profit after tax to equity holders of the Company and subsidiaries for the second quarter of 2009 was Baht 272.1 million,representing a decrease of Baht 134.0 million or 33.0 percent from the same period of last year,primarily due to a decline in net profit of subsidiaries in Industrial Supply Chain: 1) Thai Glass Industries Public Company Limited: Net profit decreased by Baht 79.2 million mainly due to lower capacity utilization since the company commenced operation of a new furnace in June 2008, higher product quality control cost in order to comply with the provisions of the Liability for Damages Arising from Unsafe Products Act B.E. 2551, ann higher costs of major raw materials. 2) Thai Beverage Can Limited: Net profit decreased by Baht 60.6 million mainly due to lower sales as a result of softening demand from economic situation and higher cost of key raw material.
