BERLI JUCKER PUBLIC CO.LTD. PRESS RELEASE Berli Jucker reports net profits of Baht 541.3 million Berli Jucker Public Co. Ltd. today announced its full year results for 1995: Revenues grew by 19.3 per cent to Baht 9,429.5 million and consolidated net profit increased by 15.4 per cent to Baht 541.3 million. The Company's final dividend was Baht 2.40 per share which brings the full year dividend to Baht 3.50, a 16.7 per cent increase over 1994. Commenting on the results, Berli Jucker's President Dr. Adul Amatavivadhana noted: "The gratifying increase in profitability reflects the benefits of our carefully considered approach to backward integration into manufacturing. Three of our four core business areas achieved increased after tax contri- butions; Consumer Products, Glass Containers and Technical Products. Our Engineering group was held back by higher than expected losses at Siemens Ltd., which is an associated company, and Thai Scandic Steel, which is a subsidiary. The Consumer Products group benefited from a very strong performance from Cellox Paper, which moved from losses in 1994 to profits in 1995, as well as significantly increased sales of wines, confectionery and our "Party" snack foods. The Glass Containers business, which had been capacity constrained for about 12 months, achieved outstanding sales and profit growth on the back of our Baht 1.2 billion investment in a 36.2% capacity increase which came on stream in July 1995. Our Technical Products business also achieved exceptionally strong growth, in particular from our photographic & electronic imaging lines and stationery lines". With respect to the outlook for 1996, Dr. Adul went on to say, "Prospects in our key business areas are very good. The Glass Containers business will benefit from continued strong demand and a full year of the increased capacity at Thai Glass Industries. The Technical Products business, particularly in medical equipment and pharmaceuticals, stationery and chemicals is also expected to achieve very strong growth. Consumer Products will continue to face stiff competition in the personal care segment but the prospects for Cellox Paper as well as Siam Snack, which is launching a new range of products in 1996, are very encouraging. The Engineering business should enjoy significantly improved contributions from our agency business and Siemens Ltd." Berli Jucker, which has plans for a major push into Vietnam, recently announced that its subsidiary Thai Glass Industries had been awarded a license by the Vietnamese Government to build and operate a 200 tonnes per day glass manufacturing facility in Song Be province just outside Ho Chi Minh City.
